Islamic Ministry, on Sunday, has urged Maldivians currently in Saudi Arabia for the Umrah pilgrimage, as well as those planning to travel, to remain especially cautious amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
After coordinated actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, Iran has reportedly retaliated by targeting US assets in Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia.
In a statement issued Sunday, the Ministry advised Maldivian pilgrims to stay alert and closely monitor their travel plans given the evolving security situation in the region.
In the event of emergencies, pilgrims have been instructed to contact the Maldives Embassy in Riyadh at +966506894477 or the Maldivian Consulate in Jeddah at +966530838329 without delay.
The Ministry also noted that it is working to set up a dedicated hotline to provide timely updates and assistance specifically for Umrah pilgrims. Information about this service will be shared once it becomes operational.
“Pilgrims are strongly advised to follow the latest travel updates and adhere to the instructions and guidelines issued by relevant official authorities and the Government of Saudi Arabia,” the statement said.
The Ministry further assured that it is closely monitoring developments and the safety of Maldivian pilgrims currently in Mecca.
