President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has departed for Bangladesh to attend the swearing‑in ceremony of the new government formed by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) following the country’s 13th parliamentary elections.
According to the President’s Office, the visit will continue until Wednesday. The President will attend the oath‑taking ceremony on Tuesday, where BNP chairman Tarique Rahman is set to be sworn in as the new Prime Minister.
President Muizzu is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister‑elect Tarique Rahman at the invitation of Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s outgoing interim government.

President Muizzu earlier congratulated the BNP on its victory and expressed confidence that relations between Maldives and Bangladesh would continue to strengthen under the new administration.
According to Bangladeshi media reports, the BNP and its allies secured a commanding majority, winning between 208 and 212 seats in the 300‑member parliament, while Jamaat‑e‑Islami won around 68 seats.
