Record for most tourist arrivals in a single day shattered within a week

As tourist arrivals to the Maldives continue to increase day by day, on Sunday, Maldives recorded the highest tourist arrivals to the country in a single day, shattering the record set on February 1st.

According to data released by the Tourism Ministry, the Maldives welcomed 10,462 tourists on Sunday, the highest number of arrivals ever recorded in a single day, surpassing the previous record of 10,253 arrivals set on February 1.

A total of 295,589 tourist arrivals has been recorded so far this year, representing a 5.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

As of the first of this month, Russia had been the leading source market to the Maldives. However, China overtook Russia this week, recording 37,304 arrivals compared to Russia’s 35,963. Italy, the United Kingdom, and Germany ranked as the third, fourth, and fifth highest source markets, respectively.

During this period, resorts remained the preferred accommodation option, accounting for 68 percent of all tourist stays. Guesthouses made up 27.0 percent, while hotels accounted for 2.7 percent of total arrivals.

At present, 179 resorts are operating across 19 atolls in the Maldives, alongside 113 guesthouses spread across 20 atolls.
