Nepal Police Club opened their CAVA Women’s Champions League campaign with a hard‑fought win over Uzbekistan’s Humo VC in Male' on Thursday.
This was Nepal Police Club’s first match of the tournament, while Humo were playing their second. Humo had earlier lost their opening match to Maldives’ Huraa Community Club in straight sets.
Nepal Police defeated Humo 3–1 in a competitive encounter this evening. The first set was the tightest of the match, with Nepal edging it 30–28. Humo responded by taking the second set 25–22. Nepal Police then secured the third and fourth sets 25–21 and 25–23 to seal the victory.
Humo VC struggled after one of their key players sustained an injury mid‑match, which significantly affected their performance for the remainder of the game.
With this result, Humo, the runners‑up of last year’s CAVA Women’s Club Championship held in Maldives, now face an uphill battle. Having lost both of their matches in the four‑team group, their chances of reaching the semi‑finals have narrowed.
Huraa Community Club will next face Iran’s Sepahan in the group stage. This will be Sepahan’s first match of the tournament.
Nepal Police Club are placed in Group B alongside Huraa, Humo and Iran’s Sepahan.
Group A consists of Maldives’ WAMCO, Sri Lanka’s Hirdaramani Sports Club and Kazakhstan’s Turan VC.
The tournament is being held at the Social Centre from February 4–10. The competition is divided into two groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi‑finals. The losing semi‑finalists will compete for bronze, while the final will take place on February 10 at 20:30.
Tickets are priced at MVR 25 and will be sold one hour before each match at the Social Centre counters.
