President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Friday night, has announced that during next Ramadan, all electricity bills charged at the domestic rate will be capped at MVR 400, with any amount above that to be discounted.

He made the announcement during the mass rally held by ruling PNC on Friday night.

In this regard, the President said that, as part of the benefits provided to citizens each Ramadan by the current administration, all electricity bills issued to all households at the domestic rate will not exceed MVR 400 next Ramadan.

In addition to this, the President noted that, just as this year, households will be gifted tuna cases next Ramadan.

Notably, the current administration provided discounts for the domestic electricity bills this Ramadan as well.

It is an electoral pledge of President Muizzu to discount electricity and water bills during Ramadan with discounts applied to utility bills last year too.

Some MVR 140 million was discounted from utility bills last year.

This year, the government distributed 111,231 tuna cases nationwide which the Finance Ministry said cost MVR 81 million.
