Maldives Police Service has arrested 90 people in seven hours under the newly launched nationwide counter-narcotics operation.
‘Operation Alimagu’ commenced with the participation 500 officers at 5:30am early Thursday morning.
The Police, in an update around 12:30am, announced the arrests of 90 people under the operation. Although the Police have shared photos of suspected drugs seized during the operation, they have not disclosed specific figures of the drugs seized nor the details of the suspects who were arrested.
The commencement of the operation was announced by President Muizzu via a post on X on Thursday morning.

According to the President, over 100 locations across the Maldives will be simultaneously searched as part of the Government’s initiative to eradicate drugs from the country.
The Police have described ‘Operation Alimagu’ as the largest counter-narcotics operation in recent years, aligning with their ongoing efforts to intercept drug trafficking across the Maldives and hold those involved in drug distribution accountable.
