Bank of Maldives (BML) has introduced WhatsApp as an official channel for receiving one-time passwords (OTP) for transactions, expanding its digital banking options.
Customers can now opt to receive OTPs securely via WhatsApp to their registered mobile number, in addition to existing channels such as SMS, Email, and Authenticator apps. The bank says this move enhances convenience and flexibility for users conducting online transactions.
Commenting on the launch, BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef said the bank is committed to offering secure and innovative solutions that meet the growing demand for digital banking. “By enabling WhatsApp as an OTP channel, we are making it even easier for our customers to access essential banking services safely and conveniently,” he said.
To activate WhatsApp as an OTP channel, customers must update their preferences via Internet Banking or the BML Mobile App. The bank emphasized that the process remains highly secure, requiring users to verify the change using an existing OTP method.
