Nine people have been arrested from a home in R. Rasgetheemu in a drug-related case.
Maldives Police Service said all nine people were arrested red-handed while using drugs inside the house.
According to the Police, they were arrested during an operation conducted on Saturday based on a tip received to Counter Narcotics Intelligence. The operation was conducted jointly by Rasgetheemu Police Post, Hulhudhuffaaru Police Post and Counter Narcotics Intellgence.
The authority identified the suspects as seven men and two women from four islands. The seven men are: a 23-year-old, two 30-year-olds a 33-year-old and a 38-year-old from R. Hulhudhuffaaru and a 36-year-old and a 41-year-old from Rasgetheemu.
The two women have been identified as a 32-year-old from Lh. Naifaru and a 21-year-old from HDh. Kulhudhuffushi.
15 pieces of paper and two rubber packs containing substances suspected to be drugs were discovered from the house following their arrest, the Police added.
As per the Police, four suspects arrested have been remanded in custody for 10 days while the remaining five suspects have been remanded in custody for 30 days.
The case is under further investigation by the Police.
On Saturday, Police announced the arrest of two suspects during counter-narcotics operations conducted in L. Dhanbidhoo and L. Gan.
The first suspect – a 60-year-old man from Gan – was arrested in a joint operation conducted by the Gan Police and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence.
The police said they seized 5.36 grams of drugs and equipment believed to be used for drug peddling in a raid of his residence.
He was remanded in police custody for 10 days on Friday.
Meanwhile, the second suspect – a 55-year-old man from L. Mundoo – was arrested from the Dhanbidhoo harbor in a joint operation by the Dhanbidhoo Police and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence.
The police said he was arrested carrying 46.32 grams of drugs.
He was remanded in police custody for five days on Friday.
