Bank of Maldives (BML) has successfully completed its ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ project.
‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ is a landmark national initiative aimed at establishing essential banking services at all residential islands in the Maldives. The bank announced the successful completion of the project during a special ceremony on Wednesday to commemorate the Bank’s journey.
During the event, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu conferred special recognition to the project team, marking their exceptional work to complete ‘Mulhi Raajjeah BML ATM’ project in record time. The project team was led by the Bank’s Director of Executive Affairs, Property and Administration, Hassan Shaam.
The first ATM under the “Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM” project was installed in February 2025, and within just nine months, the Bank deployed ATMs to 105 islands across all 20 atolls. The project’s scale and pace are unprecedented in the country and were achieved through a complex, multi-stakeholder approach to ensure timely delivery at the highest standards. The efficient and resilient implementation also resulted in a 33 percent cost reduction compared to traditional ATM installations.
Commenting on the feat, BML’s CEO, Managing Director Mohamed Shareef said ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ project was driven by the needs of the people, and its completion, marks the fulfillment of the bank’s promise of access to banking services for every citizen regardless of their location through state-of-the-art ATMs.
“Our team’s dedication has turned this vision into a reality, supporting communities across the nation,” he added.
In recognition of the transformative impact of the ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ project, BML received the ‘Outstanding Achievement of the Year in Financial Inclusion’ award from Qorus, a globally respected financial sector awards program. This honor highlights the project’s substantial contribution to enhancing financial access for communities across the Maldives.
