Raysham launches ‘The ABCs of English’ – a guide to language skills to master different situations

Aishath Raysham has launched her first book, offering a guide to horning basic English language skills to master different situations.

The book, The ABCs of English Volume 1: Situations, was launched by Dr. Fathimath Shaheema, the vice rector of Mianz College, at an event held on Monday evening at the National Library.

According to Raysham, the book is aimed at helping people who did not get the opportunity to learn the English language, people who know limited English, as well as language enthusiasts in general.

The book, which is divided into 17 chapters, uses both English and Dhivehi languages and employs storytelling as a tool to provide clear guidance on how to communicate in English in various situations linked to daily life.

It includes conversations in real-life scenarios, from the most basic “how is the weather?” conversations to communications at parent-teacher meetings, at a hotel or the doctor’s, to asking for the way when one gets lost, to acing job interviews.

The conversations in English are both translated and explained in Dhivehi language, offering readers a keener understanding and better grasp of language skills required.

Speaking at the book launch event, Dr. Shaheema said the book can be used to learn English both by itself and with the help of a tutor.

Noting that English is the most widely spoken language in the world, she said that learning basic communications in the language help immensely in various situations.

The book, priced MVR 200, is set to hit the bookstores soon. But before that, the book will be available for sale via Facebook and Instagram.
